Despite the ominous purple-gray clouds hovering over El Paso this Memorial Day weekend, the art lovers were out to enjoy the aerosol artwork for the El Paso stop on the prestigious national tour titled "Pieced Together."

The turnout at the Silos Aerosol Art Space next to the Rescue Mission was at estimated at about 500 on the show's first day, according to show curator Nathan Nordstrom. Attendees brought non-perishable items to donate to the Rescue Mission.

The first day included live painting by area aerosol artists along with collaborators from across the country, who braved the elements to paint the walls of the Silos. "This is the most interesting [stop] so far because of the layout," said Nordstrom. The Austin-based curator said that the tour will continue in Dallas, Los Angeles and Houston.

The crowd included families, couples and teenagers, some who expressed their interested in the field. "I write graph too, so this is amazing," said 17-year-old student and artist Kristin Sandoval.

Others admired the use of an unconventional building. Dietician Raquel Mendiola said, "To lend this whole space to art, it's amazing."
