This Sunday marks the debut of EPTV, an hour-long El Paso-centric television show that features local entertainment, culture and public policy segments. Hosted by Jaime Abeytia, author of The Lion Star blog, the inaugural episode highlights interviews with Texas State Representative Marissa Marquez, El Paso County Commissioners Anna Perez and Veronica Escobar, Mayor of El Paso John F. Cook and City of El Paso Representative Susie Byrd. Future episodes are slated to include movie and restaurant reviews, fashion and gadget segments, music videos and other original content.
As a longtime local activist, Abeytia underscore the importance of peaking political interest of a younger generation. "The purpose of the show is to generate more political awareness among youth and people under 40 because they are not as civilally engage in politicas as they could and should be. the show will showcase and highlight issues that are important to the community in a fashion that is palatable to young people."
The show is targeted toward an audience ages 18 - 35, whom Abeytia hopes will glean an interest in activism from the show. "Our demographic is underrepresented and I think that we can flex more political muscle if we have people start getting more involved," he says.
The independent project is spearheaded by Man on a Mission Media team Manny Mendoza, Jaime Blanco, producer and co-creator, Luis Ruiz, and Farrokh Farrokhnia. "The show will focus on local events, talent, business and politics," says Farrokhnia, EPTV co-producer. "The over goal is to provide a 'quality of life' type show that El Paso lacks."
EPTV will be broadcast by City of El Paso Government Channel 15 on Time Warner Cable from 11 am to 12 pm on Sundays, and may be featured as part of Time Warner’s Local on- Demand Summer Promotion. EPTV will also be one of the attractions for El Paso Hot Spots, Man on a Mission Media’s soon-to-be launched website.
