This wine’s composition is 82 percent Cabernet Sauvignon and 18 percent Merlot. This wine enjoyed a cool growing season, which contributed to its classic structure and balanced acidity and the heat at harvest intensified the grapes’ dense, ripe, fruit flavors. This wine is classic Cabernet Sauvignon, with a rich, dark purple color followed by a glorious nose of currants, crème de cassis, licorice, truffles and black tea.
If you like full-bodied wines that are powerful and juicy on the palate, this is your wine. Probably a special occasion wine for most of us, but if you love good food and wine, it is well worth the cost.
Try this wine with a grilled steak, preferably a well-marbled rib eye from Café Central or your favorite meat market.
The 2002 Chateau Montelena Cabernet Sauvignon is available at Café Central, The Greenery and other fine wine retailers. Salud!
