Laura Andrade proves that being a full-time student does not strip you of your creative ability. To pass the time and add flavor to her day, Laura bakes unique cupcakes in the comfort of her kitchen.

How long have you been creating cupcakes?
I've been baking since I was twelve or thirteen, but I only started experimenting with creative design around April of this past year. It started when I bought a book, Hello Cupcake by Karen Tack.

What style is your favorite to make?
My favorites are the styles that I use in the tiered cupcake plate with the bright colors. It allows for freedom of design, because any two colors can be used and they look so appetizing.

What gave you the idea to start making these creations?
Well the book, Hello Cupcake caught my attention online, and I love that the author of the book encourages using boxed cake mix and canned frosting. The recipes and designs are super simple, and I've hardly had to buy any equipment or anything extra for baking. So I just started practicing at home for fun, and the first time I made them for others was for a birthday party. They were also pretty popular with my sorority sisters, so I may make them for our bake sales and I've also made other designs as birthday gifts or potluck contributions.

What events do you create cupcakes for?
I think these cupcakes are great for themed events or birthday parties. The colorful ones are cute for sports teams, since it’s a design with two colors, or Mothers Day, Fourth of July and all holidays. If anyone has ideas of their own that they’d like me to make, the designs are not difficult to tweak at all. I have made big giant cupcakes and little ones!
